Students get handy on sun-shelter

The Level 3 Building and Construction students put together a proposal for the school and are now into the building of the fan-shaped design, to offer additional seating and shade space for the school’s students to enjoy.

Teacher Angaroa Williams said the students wanted to take on a new challenge from their previous projects.

“We have previously made the pre-fabs as part of their study, but this time we were looking for a project that would be beneficial to the school itself.

“This fan-shaped decking proposal will allow an area for our students to enjoy, as our main quad area is very exposed with not a lot of shaded areas available for the students break times.

“Through our design and construction we are trying to maximise the shade for as much of the day as we can and will also be staining the area ourselves so that it will last for a long time, out here in the harsh Cook Islands elements.”

Each of his students are involved in the building process and it is hoped that it will be completed by the end of the year.
