After having a bake sale and sausage sizzle on Thursday, Apii Te Uki Ou presented the SPCA with a cheque for just over $600 last Friday morning.

SPCA country manager Tony Jamieson and Op Shop manager Sandra Lovering turned up to accept the donation – with a little help from some furry friends of the canine variety.

Jamieson said the SPCA is always appreciative of any donations given, whether it’s money raised or the community continuing to donate clothes, books and other goods to their store in town at the Punanga Nui markets.

Some of the funds in particular would go towards the medical costs that are required to help ‘Phoenix’, one of the dogs currently at the SPCA shelter in Vaimaanga.

It was the second time last week that the organisation was given assistance by a school, with Titikaveka College having earlier held their ‘Service Day’, for which students donated food and money as well as helping walk and groom the dogs at the shelter.
