The National Arts Theatre team will fly the Cook Islands flag at the Military Tattoo in Sydney.

Formed in 1968, the team often travels to perform at international events – but this time, they and seven other Pacific nations’ teams will travel with authority on five Royal Australian Air Force planes.

Next month’s Sydney performance of the Edinburgh Military Tattoo will be the biggest ever. The Tattoo yesterday confirmed a 1521-strong cast. For the first time ever, acts from Indonesia, Papua New Guinea and the Solomon Islands will perform.

Representatives from the Royal Australian Navy, Army and Air Force have announced Operation Tartan 19 – a plan to ensure the best of the Pacific are able to take pride of place at the four Sydney performances.

Organisers said this demonstrated the importance of the relationships Australia holds with each of the participating nations.
