If you were wondering why such a huge number of cars were parked outside the Islander Hotel & Hula Bar last Thursday night and so many people were pouring in through the doors - there was a very good reason.

And if you weren’t aware that the hotel was the location for the much-anticipated Masters and Expats Dancer of the Year contest, you must have been on another planet.

A massive crowd turned out for the contest and it was a colourful and spectacular affair, drawing visitors and locals alike.

Unfortunately, efforts to obtain results from the Ministry of Cultural Development met with no success on Friday, but CINews will publish them as soon as they become available.

In the meantime, courtesy of The Islander, here’s some colour photos of Thursday night’s action.

The Islander Hotel sends out a huge meitaki maata to all the sponsors and supporters for making the annual event, celebrating Cook Islands dance talents, possible.

“It was an awesome event, and congratulations to all those who participated, and to all the winners of the night,” a spokesman for the sponsors said.

“Well done!"
