Cook Islands Police spokesperson Trevor Pitt said one male suspect was assisting the police with their inquiries yesterday.

Police said they were making good progress in the investigation of a series of burglaries, which struck multiple victims over the weekend.

Investigators were swiftly mobilised yesterday in the wake of the most recent break-ins around the town area.

So far, the number of places hit during the early hours of yesterday stands at nine. This includes one government office.

“Mostly commercial properties were targeted between town and Nikao.”
Over recent weeks, break-ins at local companies and businesses have been a growing concern to police investigators.

In the early hours of Friday last week, three commercial premises between Nikao and Black Rock were broken into.

Police are advising businesses to step up their awareness about security and take precautionary measures around the safekeeping of cash.

One or more persons are suspected of deliberately targeting properties for cash and avoiding the spotlight of eye-witnesses during the early morning hours.
