Womens 7s squad sets sights on Borneo

The Cook Islands national womens rugby sevens squad now look to their next tournament after wrapping up their Pacific Games campaign winning 5th place on Friday (New Caledonia time).

The team depart Noumea at the weekend where they will hold trials in Auckland to select a team to represent the Cook Islands at the womens sevens competition in Borneo the same tournament the inaugural Cook Islands womens national sevens squad came third.

The Cooks faced Guam, who they beat earlier in the week 22-5, for the 5th and 6th in the Pacific Games tournament.

The Cooks couldnt quite find the same form in which they won their first match against Guam but they ground out a 10-5 win to come 5th.

Guam placed 6th and Tahiti last in 7th place.

The tournament gold medal went to the formidable Fijian side with Samoa taking out silver, Papua New Guinea bronze and New Caledonia 4th.
