Beauty pageant contestants put on a spectacular show

Sand art, pole dancing, singing, a guitar performance, line dancing and the evergreen spirited Cook Islands culture, added flair and diversity to the Miss Cook Islands talent category. 

 

The highlight show of Miss Cook Islands was held at the National Auditorium on Saturday night.

Tajiya Sahay, first on the stage, impressed the crowd with her flexibility, swirling and balancing from a pole – “ole aerobic exercise”.

She loves anything to do with physical activity to keep herself fit.

“I love to challenge myself… the sky is the limit and you can reach any goal you want to do,” Sahay said.

Projected onto the big screen was Memory Richards sand art composition, which was appreciated by the admiring audience.

Confident and graceful, the seven young women contesting for the Miss Cook Islands crown, rocked the stage in the Islander swim wear with a mini pare. The category is worth 40 points.

Judging on poise, and the overall presentation and “tie and style” of pareu, The Islander pareu section is valued at 15 points. The contestants had three metres of hand painted fabric by Gina Keenan Designs to come up with a creation.

The Bluesky muumuu section, which is worth 20 points, focused on the suitability of the style of the dress to each contestant.

Judges for the event are Karla Eggelton, Mina Henderson, Marama Nicholas, Stan Wolfgramm and the present Miss Cook Islands International Louisa Purea.

The pageant interviews order of appearances were drawn on the night with assistance from Miss Grand International Teau Mackenzie.

The contestants will make their final appearances on Saturday night at the National Auditorium where reigning Miss Cook Islands Reihani Koteka-Wiki will hand over her crown to her successor.
