Kidding around for Film Raro

Friday May 24, 2013 Written by Published in Entertainment

A clip about being a kid in the Cooks will accompany the six short movies that will screen at the Film Raro International Film Festival tonight.

Students at various schools on Rarotonga were put in front of the lens by people who helped put Film Raro together, including organiser of the event Stan Wolfgramm.

The students – who were from schools including Nukutere College, Papaaroa College, Avarua School, Titikaveka College and Nikao Maori School – answered the question: “What is it to be a Cook Islands kid?”

A compilation of their answers will screen at tonight’s film screening, and Wolfgramm said it is part of Film Raro involving the local community in the event.

“We wanted to give them a voice, on a platform where lots of people can see it.

“It gives them an identity in the film medium and helps them develop the skills (to talk on camera).”

The Film Raro International Film Festival will take place at Nikao’s BCI Stadium tonight from 6pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door for $4 for adults and $2 for students. Half of the money from ticket sales will go to local schools, while the other half will be used by Film Raro to cover costs.
